Hi all,

I used to play online NL tournaments as a hobby till it got shut down and was a slightly winning player (played around 200 different $5 to $11 large field MTTs & 90 man MTTs on PStars). My skills improved considerably towards the end of 2010 (w/1 large MTT win and a few final tables in a couple of other MTTs) before I had to put it all on hold to focus on a new job and family.

I tried playing around 5 live tourneys ($300 avg entry price) and I busted out in all of them. I know it is a small sample but with the quality of play I am surprised I am not winning. Live for me is very slow, requires too much focus, is too expensive and becomes a luckfest quickly when I have to shove with a 5-8M stack. I am probably missing some signal to change gears with all calling stations, rocks, and weak-tight play.

My cash game results are the opposite and I am winning at 2/5 NL cash games whenever I play it after busting out of tourneys. I used to suck at cash online (most I tried was .1/.25 and I rarely played cash).

Now my question is this:
Does anyone else have the same experience?

I am thinking of playing only cash and avoid tourneys till online poker returns. When I first started poker, I won a few 100$ BI live tourneys and now I cannot even go deep in live tourneys at all. Any advice or feedback on what I could read to improve my tourney play? I live 1.5 hours from the nearest casino so I want to ensure my bi-weekly weekend visits are profitable. Any advise?

Thanks!
